”THIS WIN MEANT SOMETHING IN THE MOMENT SO I TOOK IT UPON MYSELF TO JUMP ON THE FENCE AND TURN TO THE TEAM INSTEAD OF THE CROWD,” Troy Coronel ’19 said.

Note: On a cold, Friday night in Fort Collins, our football team took on Fort Collins High School. The Bulldogs fell behind quickly, trailing 21-0 before even getting a first down. It was the beginning of the second quarter when they decided to turn it on, scoring two touchdowns before halftime and eventually coming back to beat the Lambkins. After the game, the team ran over to the stands, where family and a traveling student section waited. After each game they win, the team chants the fight song with the crowd. After completing the comeback, team captain Troy Coronel took it upon himself to jump up on the fence and lead his team in the fight song with a traveling student section behind him.

HERE’S THE PITCH. Halie Litwin ‘19 throws a fastball to catcher Mackenzi Kroll ‘18 at home plate during the third inning of the rivalry softball game against Prairie View High School. “I love the competitiveness and being able to sort of be a role model in the circle,” Litwin said. The game ended in the sixth inning due to the mercy rule as the Bulldogs won, 10-0. Photo By: Will Satler/BHS Reflections

Note: During the second of two rivalry games against cross-town rival, Prairie View, pitcher Halie Litwin, throws a fastball to catcher Mackenzi Kroll before defeating their rival, 10-0. Litwin ended up playing an important part in the Bulldogs successful season, which eventually came to an end in the first round of the CHSAA 5A State Playoffs.

THIS IS OUR TOWN. After beating their crosstown rival, Prairie View, 39-3, the Bulldogs hoist up the Superintendent’s Cup as a team in front of the crowd. Photo By: Will Satler/ BHS Reflections

Note: I took this picture after the Superintendent’s Cup returned to Brighton. In our small town, there’s two high schools, Brighton and Prairie View. On those Friday nights when the two come together, the entire town shuts down. Businesses and shops close to come watch the game. No matter how talented each team is each year, the Cup always is an intense battle between both teams. This picture shows the emotion and the brothership that the team had created for this game.

“GO BULLDOGS.” During one of the fall sports pep assembly, Brighton High School principal, Mr. John Biner, points to the sea of seniors in a battle to see which class is the loudest. Photo By: Will Satler/ BHS Reflections

Note: At Brighton, the cherry red and white spirit stick belongs to whichever class is the loudest during the “GO BULLDOGS” chant at the most recent pep assembly. During the fall assembly this year, principal Mr. John Biner pointed to the senior section to turn up the volume as they battled the sophomores to see who was the loudest. This picture shows the incredible energy Mr. Biner provides at the assemblies and for those who attend Brighton, the rich traditions that the spirit stick holds.
