AFTER THE DENVER BRONCOS WON SUPER BOWL 50 against the Carolina Panthers, over one million fans from all over the state and even country came to Downtown Denver on Tuesday, February 9 for a victory parade.

This was the Denver Broncos third Super Bowl title, and just like in 1997 and 1998, the town of Denver shut down for a parade. Since the parade took place on a weekday, many students decided that this was a “must-see” event and didn’t attend school that day. School bus routes were forced to be altered, some schools went on an altered schedule, and the entire state of Colorado sported their orange and blue jerseys to show their Bronco pride.

“It seemed like half of the school took the day to go to the parade. We had the opportunity to see a once in a lifetime thing surrounded by a million fans,” Andrew Bugarin ‘17 said. “It was totally worth it, and kind of inspirational as it made me appreciate football a lot more.”

During the parade, Broncos Nation held strong as they watched the team drive on trucks starting at Union Station and finishing at Denver City Hall. The crowd of over one million fans packed in, standing shoulder to shoulder, to hear speeches from Annabel Bowlen, the wife of team owner, Pat Bowlen, who was absent due to his fight with Alzheimer Disease as well the city of Denver’s Governer John Hickenlooper and Mayor of Denver, Michael B Handcock.

”Regardless on whether they are winning or not, the broncos will be my team. I was so excited when they won the Super Bowl because it was their first super bowl since I’ve been alive. To be able to celebrate this moment with my friends and more importantly family,is something i’ll remember for ever,” Kameron Savage ‘18 said.

Speeches were also made by DeMarcus Ware, Peyton Mannie, and even General Manager, John Elway, who concluded by saying, “This one’s for Pat.”

“Everything about this day and parade was awesome. We won the Super Bowl and seeing players like Von Miller, Peyton Manning, and DeMarcus Ware in person was really cool. It was also fun to see and be with over a million people celebrating the Broncos and their victory. I had to be there to be part of that,” Chase Gustad ‘17 said.

Note:  I designed this page in the 2016 CSPA Silver Crown award winning yearbook ‘You Don’t Know The Half of It’ to tell the story of Bronco fans in our school who attended the parade. I assigned photographers to get photos at the parade. I put together this spread that was supposed to bleed orange and blue. This was the first spread I ever got to design, and really sparked the idea in my brain that I wanted to design.

WE’VE NEVER FINISHED THE SEASON LIKE THIS

FALL BALL WORLD SERIES SPANS TWO WEEKS WITH WHITE TEAM TAKING HOME CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE AND SHIRTS

WHEN FALL BALL COMES AROUND, baseball players look forward to finishing the season with the Fall Ball World Series.  The FBWS concludes the fall season with a mini tournament against their fellow teammates.

“It’s something you look forward to at the end of every fall, and something you will remember forever,” Cody Beck 17’ said.

This year, 12 seniors participated for the three teams and for some, they came to the realization that it will be the last “World Series” for them. Some have played together since they were in elementary school, like Jose Treto ’17 and Liam Eddy ’17. This would be the last time they would play against each other in the FBWS, which was emotionally challenging for some.

“Last year was great and all, but this year was a lot more relaxed. The seniors were really close this year so it was cool to play our last fall ball season together and I’m really excited for what the spring season has to offer for us,”  Andrew Bugarin ‘17 said.

The following Monday, Halloween, the boys put on their spikes one final time, and headed over to the softball field to particpate in the 3rd Annual Halloween Game. This was the first year in which both baseball and softball combined in the contest. Players dress up in costumes and give out candy to kids who come watch.

“The FBWS is a great way for the upperclassmen to introduce newcomers to spring ball. It’s competitive, and that why I love it,” Jess Pratt ‘17 said.

Playing in the “World Series” gives players a relaxed, but competitive environment to show off their skills. Many athletes look forward to playing in the event, and also dressing up for the kids.

Note: Last year, I wanted to take another spin on the traditional baseball chronological spread. I did just that, by abandoning the regular photo package, and cutting out the background of 8 different athletes, and putting them together in a way that would appeal to a reader. I included many of our theme graphic design concepts, like the large handwritten pull quote and even the gray word “FBWS” which was featured on every page.

PRIDE: SAME AS ITS NEVER BEEN

Win CS Static

There’s nothing like a football game on Friday Night.

CAN YOU believe the Prairie View game was the season opener?

Thank goodness it was a Red Out.

And how ‘bout those tweets from the Dawg Pound? The new Hawaiian and Camo Nights rocked.

Did you expect to see Autumn Lavender ‘17 running across the track waving the big flag when we scored a touchdown?

What about that new Rollercoaster cheer that  was led by Kaleb Taylor ‘17 and Phoenix Werth ‘17?

We took our small town traditions and tried

something new.

it’s

SAME AS ITS NEVER BEEN.

Note: To open our 2017 yearbook, ‘Same As Its Never Been’ I was directed to design a theme page that screamed Brighton (literally). The page needed to showcase how this school year had all the same hometown traditions with new things we’ll never get to experience today. I used the half cut-out background photos throughout the book and on this page as well. This spread also won an honorable mention for the NSPA Spread/Page Design of the Year at the 2017 Fall Conference in Dallas.
